HAT Program - RCFL’s Housing and Transition (HAT) Program provides a home to youth who would otherwise be without secure housing. Designed for youth ages 18 to 25, HAT places them in their first apartment, provides empowerment and life skills workshops, and surrounds them with community. We’re doing more than helping young people become successful adults; we’re helping them become good neighbors by modelling the same. For more information, contact Babette Chatman, director of facilities, at bchatman@redeemercenter.org or (612)374-4139.
Venture North Bike Walk & Coffee, RCFL’s social venture, and North Minneapolis’s premiere bike, walk, and coffee shop. Venture North is where you can meet all of your biking and walking needs, connect with community, enjoy a superb cup of coffee, engage the youth mechanic apprentice program, and experience customer service at its very best. Venture North Bike • Walk • Coffee is a place for healthy jump-starts, new connections, and youth employment opportunities. Venture North – 1830 Glenwood Avenue, Minneapolis, MN
Summer Camps- Every summer RCFL sponsors some great summer camps for children and youth in Harrison Neighborhood. This summer youth participating in summer camp are urban farmers planting and tending the Redeemer Urban Farm; cyclists exploring city-wide greenways, mastering bicycle safety, and getting greasy with bicycle maintenance; chefs creating culinary works of art to be shared with family, friends, and neighbors at each week’s Backyard Cookout, Wednesdays, June 30 through August 3; and artists exploring the elements of hip-hop culminating in a performance at the annual Redeemer Block Party drawing an audience of 500+.
Girls Group & Boys Group- In our culture, young women and men are under tremendous pressure to make sense of friends, family, and life without any kind of instruction manual about growing up! In both groups, middle school-age youth gather to figure these out with adult mentors. Girls group meets Thursday evenings, for more information, contact Lonna Field at lonna_field@yahoo.com. Boys group meets Wednesday evenings; for more information, contact youth director Kent Goodroad at kgoodroad@gmail.com.
Christmas Store- Where else but Redeemer can children and youth buy Christmas presents for their family members for only $1? On the 2nd Saturday of December, Redeemer Lutheran, RCFL, and our church partners produce an afternoon full of gifts, food, carols and crafts.
JUMP- Joint Urban Ministries and Praise is an urban worship experience founded in 2001 by Christian hip hop artist Agape (David Scherer). JUMP affirms youth culture and empowers youth leaders, while inspiring and connecting people to God and to each other. In 2005, JUMP collaborated with break dancer Abide (David Pellinen) to create a weekly program for all youth to develop gifts for hip hop and grow in Christian discipleship. In 2008, RJC (Redeemer JUMP Crew) formed and performed all over the Twin Cities and the country. In 2009, RJC released their first CD. Interested in bringing RJC to your congregation, or starting your own JUMP crew? Contact them at rjc@redeemermpls.org.
