Thankful Thursday: Shoonie Hartwig
At Redeemer, “everybody is trying, in one way or another, to figure out what it means to be radically hospitable, and translate hostility to hospitality in vibrant ways. It's an amazing privilege to find places where you can grow and not feel intimidated because you are not exactly on everybody's page. And in this time frame, to be able to say ‘I don’t agree with you, but I’m staying’ is really important.”
This is Shoonie Hartwig. Shoonie has been in community with Redeemer since 2003, giving of her time, wisdom, laughter, flowers, books, and dollars - each as they bring her meaning and joy. We interviewed Shoonie over coffee at Venture North, we inquired as to what keeps her connected to Redeemer Lutheran and RCFL and why she gives.
“I think the variety of programs are amazing. So the extension of the Sunday, the worship, the folks that are there, into real neighborliness and identifying what that could mean and change is really exciting. If i had more, I would give more. It’s one of those spaces that… all I can say is just bravo and just do more.”
Thank you, Shoonie, for investing, engaging, and celebrating with us.

We’ll see you again, right here, as we embark on a regular Tuesday/Thursday journey of diving deeper into the workings of the Redeemer community, who we are, how we engage, and just how we together evolve.
As a place based organization, we celebrate and reinforce the diversity of Minneapolis’s Northside through social action and investment in its people, ideas, and enterprises. Community engagement remains at the core of our organizational culture and the primary source for our vision, strategy and evolution.
The support and partnership provided by monetary donations of all sizes, volunteerism, and in-kind contributions enable us to continue to act as an agent of hope and transformation to preserve a vibrant community in North Minneapolis.
